The Difference Between the Standard 2020 Volkswagen Golf and the 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI

When checking our lot of compact cars here at Folsom Lake Volkswagen, you may notice the multitude of 2019 Volkswagen Golf-types that we have.  You may find, say, the 2019 VW Golf GTI and wonder, “What’s the difference? It’s more expensive, but they have the same name!”

To help you out, we decided to compare the two and give you a better idea of if it’s worth purchasing a 2019 VW Golf GTI or stick with the 2019 VW Golf.

The Difference in 2019 Volkswagen Golf Models is in the Engine

Volkswagen Golf

2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI

1.4L 4-cylinder Turbo 6M Engine 2.0L 4-cylinder Turbo 6M
147 hp Power 228 hp
184 ft-lbs. Torque 258 ft-lbs.
32 combined MPG Fuel economy 27 combined MP

As you can see, the engine is perhaps the biggest difference between the two.  For those wanting additional power to the 2019 Volkswagen Golf, look no further than the sporty engine found in the 2019 VW GTI.  With over 80 more horsepower in its 2.0-liter engine, the 2019 Golf GTI trades fuel economy for more power, making it a fun ride if you combine it with its sporty handling should you use the recommended premium unleaded fuel.  The model is great for those looking for an extra kick, but daily commuters may still enjoy the additional mileage the VW Golf has to offer.

Smaller Amenities Found in the 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI

Outside of the engine specifications, the 2019 VW Golf GTI has some upgraded creature comforts not otherwise offered.  One of those features is the standard heated front seats, which come in handy during those chillier evenings.  Also, it’s worth mentioning that the 2019 VW Golf GTI was given a Top Safety Pick Rating from the Institute for Highway Safety last year. Other unique features found at higher trim levels include:

  • Driver Navigation
  • Parking Assistance
  • Optional Adaptive Suspension

Any way you cut it, there are plenty of pros and cons to think about when deciding between the 2019 Volkswagen Golf and the 2019 VW Golf GTI.  Stop on in today at Folsom Lake Volkswagen to test one out and see which one is the best fit for your lifestyle!
